Hillhouse High has the state’s best male basketball players and its fastest female runners. Aldermen congratulated both groups on Monday night.
In a special ceremony, aldermen issued official citations to the members of the Hillhouse boys basketball team and to four girls on the schools track team.
The basketball team last month beat Fairfield Prep to win the Class LL state championship, 52 – 42. The Hillhouse Academics had a 26 – 1 record for the season. Their lineup includes the sons of two aldermen, Jeanette Morrison and Carlton Staggers, who handed out the citations with Alderman Al Paolillo.
The Hillhouse track stars were Class M state champions this year. The four seniors honored by the Board of Aldermen have all secured four-year college scholarships. Precious Holmes, Kellie Davis, and Johnnesse Peterson were in the aldermanic chamber to receive their citations.
Hillhouse Principal, and likely mayoral candidate, Kermit Carolina, also showed up to stand with his student athletes as they accepted their recognition.
