Three days in a row, a man with a distinctive gait and distinctive footwear popped in to a Wooster Square apartment building — just long enough to make off with some packages.
The apartment building’s surveillance camera captured his image. Now police are looking for him.
The thief hit the four-story apartment building at 488 Chapel St. across from Conte West Hills School between 10 a.m. and noon on March 18, 19 and 20, according to top Wooster Square cop Sgt. Tammi Means.
Click on the video to watch him in action. Means pointed out the consistency in the way the man walked each day, as well as his lime-green sneaker laces.
The neighborhood has had a problem with thefts of packages from unlocked front vestibules, like the one at 488 Chapel. UPS and FedEx delivery people leave packages there for tenants who aren’t home. Sometimes thieves, like the sneaker-clad visitor to Chapel Street, get there first.
Means asked anyone with information about the suspect to call the police department’s TIPS hotline at 1 – 866-888-TIPS(8477).
A visit Thursday morning to the building, which was built in 1900, revealed the front door to be locked. No packages in sight.
