Days after introducing himself to Wooster Square voters, one of four candidates for alderman has already left the race.
That candidate is Chris Campbell (pictured). He was one of four men — three Democrats (including him) and one Republican — pitching their candidacies for the open Ward 8 aldermanic seat at a community meeting Tuesday night.
Campbell said Friday he has dropped out of the race to endorse a fellow Democrat, Peter Webster.
Why? Because he wants to vote for Webster, he said.
“We sat across the table from each other [Monday night] agreeing with each other the whole time,” Campbell said. “You can only stand across a table from someone agreeing with him for so long. I came out of there wanting to vote for him. “
Campbell cited Webster’s service as block watch captain, Cherry Blossom Festival co-chair, and Wooster Square Historical Society board member, as evidence that “he feels passionate about protecting the neighborhood.”
Democrat Aaron Greenberg and Republican Andy Ross are also running. Read about all the candidates here.
Campbell served as campaign manager for mayoral candidate Gary Holder-Winfield, who dropped out of his own race earlier this week.
