A 59-year-old Hamden man named Frank Mangiero died in a fire Tuesday night.
Two pets died as well.
Hamden firefighters arrived at the fire at 775 Hill Street at 10:20 p.m., four minutes after neighbors called it in, according to a release issued Wednesday by Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.
They encountered “heavy fire in the breezeway and garage that was spreading into the house,” Dolan wrote.
Two people got out safely, one through a bedroom window, the other through the front door. The latter informed firefighters that Mangiero was still inside.
“Rescue crews began an aggressive interior search of the home while other crews worked to extinguish the fire,” Dolan wrote. They found Mangiero “deceased in the living room.”
The two occupants who escaped were treated at Yale New Haven Hospital for smoke inhalation, then released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
