Bullets sent a crowd scurrying out of a Hamden park — and sent a 21-year-old New Haven man to the hospital.
The gunfire occurred at Villano Park on Mill Rock Road Saturday at around 9:20 p.m.
The park was “filled with people playing and onlookers,” then “emptied out with people running and fleeing in fear for their lives” when multiple shots rang out, according to Hamden police spokesperson Capt. Ronald Smith.
One of the shots hit the 21-year-old man in the head. He was playing basketball at the time. He “immediately started bleeding from his head,” and a friend drove him to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, Smith reported. He described the man’s injuries as “non-life-threatening.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Jomo Crawford at (203) 230‑4048.
