The latest in a wave of shootings in town took place Monday on Ella Grasso Boulevard near the intersection of Whalley Avenue.
Police arrived at the scene of the shooting at 6:39 p.m. They found a 51-year-old “male gunshot victim” outside in front of 1464 Boulevard, between Whalley and Argonne. He had a single gunshot wound.
He was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital “where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening,” according to a police summary. Witnesses told police the suspect was “last seen running into the Walgreens parking lot and then entering a gold or brown colored Audi sedan.” Investigators collected ballistic evidence at the scene.
New Haven had 121 nonfatal shootings, the highest since 2011. Shootings remain on an unusually high pace this year as well.
Meanwhile, Hamden police identified that town’s latest homicide victim. Jonquay Morrison, a town resident who is 38, was shot dead on Hamden Park Drive on Sunday.
