Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Childhood School staff wanted a way to say goodbye to a school year that has been turned upside down by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Principal Monique Brunson.
Like many district schools, Mayo decided to host a “reverse parade” on Thursday to allow teachers, social workers and custodians to see their students from a safe distance.
“This was a wonderful way for our community to say hello and goodbye until we meet again next year,” Brunson said.
Brunson estimated that around 200 families drove through, often with cars decorated in posters and balloons. Many of the 80 administrators, nurses, educators and other members of Brunson’s staff present wore costumes.
