Over $4 million is coming to the city to help builders clean separate polluted properties in order to construct new homes and other public buildings.
The three grants are among 41 newly announced by the state Department of Economic and Community Development through its Brownfield Remediation and Development Program.
“These are smart investments that will boost vibrancy, expand housing opportunities, and spur commercial growth,” incoming DECD Commissioner Alexandra Daum stated in a release announcing the grants.
The three New Haven grants include:
• $2 million for clean-ups and demolition for ConnCORP’s 7.6‑acre Dixwell Plaza rebuild, which is to feature offices, 184 housing units, a health clinic, food hall, grocery, performing arts center, and townhouses.
• $1.3 million to dig up and prepare 4.42 acres at 16 Miller St. for West River Housing Company’s planned 56 mixed-income apartments, clubhouse community center, meeting space, coffee shop, interior parking, playground and gazebo.
• $985,000 to pave the way for a recently approved plan to transform the former New England Linen Supply factory at 149 – 169 Derby Ave. into 67 below-market-rent one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
