Westville’s public library branch cleared out its overflow books — and came back with $2,500 for the citywide system.
That happened this past weekend. The Mitchell branch held a festive sidewalk (and inside) sale of books it no longer needs for its shelves — for instance, multiple copies of books that never get checked out more than one at a time.
People went home with hundreds of bargains on children’s and adults books, audio tapes, and videos.
Such sales used to take place outside the main downtown branch. But not for the past 15 years, according to Sharon Lovett-Graff, the Westville branch manager.
She said the $2,500 proceeds go to the whole city library system. She and her crew sent the books that didn’t sell over to classrooms in schools that don’t have libraries, such as Celentano, Common Ground, and ESUMS.
