Emergency workers made a sad discovery Wednesday night: A 33-year-old woman may have been dead a day or longer while her little daughter was with her in the apartment.
The discovery took place before 8 p.m. in a first-floor apartment on Whalley Avenue near Hubinger Street.
A man called for emergency medical help when he went to see the mother of his child, and the mother wasn’t breathing.
Paramedics showed up. The woman appeared to have been dead for 24 hours or longer, according to police. Her 4‑year-old daughter had been home with her.
Police are investigating the death, but have no reason to believe it involved foul play, according to one official. “There were no marks. There was nothing that would indicate on first blush that this was a homicide.”
As usual in such cases, the police have called the Yale Child Study Center in to work with the child.
The daughter’s father hadn’t heard from the mother for days, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. “Their daughter was in her care, and had been inside the apartment for what could have been a couple days.”
An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
