Motorcyclist Dies After Chapel St. Crash

A 43-year-old New Havener named Michael Borelli died Saturday following a crash between his motorcycle and a car in the Wooster Square neighborhood.

City police announced that fatal crash in a press release posted to the New Haven Police Department’s X account on Sunday.

The press release states that, on Saturday at around 2:29 p.m., New Haven police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Chapel Street and Union Street on the report of a motor vehicle collision. One of the vehicles was a motorcycle, the other a Chevrolet Malibu.

When officers arrived, they found Borelli, the operator of the motorcycle, suffering serious injuries due to the crash.” City firefighters and American Medical Response ambulance personnel arrived on scene and pronounced Borelli deceased.

The operator of the Chevrolet Malibu remained on scene. Preliminary information suggests the Malibu was traveling west on Chapel Street approaching the intersection with Union Street where it began to turn left onto Union Street. The motorcycle was traveling east on Chapel Street and collided with the front of the vehicle as it began to turn left.”

The Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate, as well.
