(Update Tuesday 12:20 p.m.: Detective Ingles has been released from the hospital “and is recuperating,” police reported.)
A 14-year veteran of the police department is being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital for “serious injuries” sustained when a motorcycle struck him Monday at 3:15 p.m.
The cop, Detective Juan Ingles, was directing traffic on Kimberly Avenue under the I‑95 underpass when a motorcyclist ran into him, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.
“Detective Ingles was pinned beneath the motorcycle until he was freed by others at the scene. He has sustained serious injuries but has remained conscious,” Hartman wrote in a release.
Ingles, 47, works in the police department’s Family Services Unit. He is also a bomb squad technician. (Read a “Cop of the Week” story about him here.)
The department’s crash team is investigating the crash. No word yet on whether charges will be filed.
