Those were the tallies Tuesday afternoon as The NewAlliance Foundation celebrated its first decade in the philanthropy business, with a festive bash at its downtown offices. A whole lot of civic-spirited people converged on the 7th floor of 195 Church St. Fortunately they wore name tags — because the Independent’s caption writer is off duty today. See if you can read the tags or else guess who was who, in these photos from the party. We’ll offer some hints. First hint: The woman pictured above, offering hugs at the front door, runs a thriving downtown community college.
The woman at left has for decades helped families find a roof, feed their kids, build more secure lives. The man in the middle’s most recent civic perch is the Community Foundation for New Haven board. The man at right has been helping the revived St. Martin DePorres School approach its own first decade of success.
She hands out “good eggs” and enables affordable housing to get built all over town. He helps run a local bank and numerous not-for-profit boards.
She makes the arts happen in New Haven.
She harnesses the power of the sun and of young people in New Haven neighborhoods.
