Ann P Lehman, Intersection, 1980
painted steel
Northwest corner of Whitney and Trumbull
Some public sculptures, over time, become invisible, even if they do not vanish entirely. Since the accompanying photograph was taken, this piece has been repainted but not repaired. Now it rusts upwards beneath its color. Yet it stands there, frantic, like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz describing those on the yellow brick road who travel in both directions at once. It is a landmark, after all, even unnoticed.
