Officer Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

A seven-year city police veteran was arrested Friday on three domestic-violence charges in North Branford.

That’s according to a press release put out at 10:39 p.m. Friday by New Haven Police Department spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway.

Shumway wrote that a city police officer — who first joined the NHPD in November 2014 and who is currently assigned to the patrol division — turned himself in on Friday to the North Branford Police Department. 

That officer has been charged with the family violence offenses” of third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful restraint, and third-degree strangulation. The court has placed a $5,000 bond on the officer’s arrest warrant.

Shumway wrote that the city’s Internal Affairs division first learned of the officer’s alleged potential off duty criminal actions” on Tuesday. 

Acting Police Chief Renee Dominguez has put the officer on administrative leave as IA conducts its own parallel investigation.
