Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett will be able to “show up” safely for a scheduled meeting as planned Monday morning, even though she has tested positive for Covid-19.
Garrett received the positive result Sunday afternoon from a rapid home test.
The mayor, who is double-vaccinated and boosted, told the Independent Sunday evening that she is experiencing symptoms akin to those of a “minor cold”: “A little bit of a headache, which Tylenol takes care of. And a scratchy throat.”
Following town protocols, Garrett said she, like other town employees testing positive in this Omicron-variant-propelled surge of coronavirus cases, plans to stay home this week. She has her computer and phone ready, she said: She expects to work “mostly” at full tilt.
“I can still Zoom,” she noted.
The first meeting she had scheduled for Monday was indeed set for Zoom: She and State Rep. Roland Lemar planned to discuss how to extend Whitney Avenue bike infrastructure and traffic-calming measures planned for New Haven into Hamden.
“I’ll definitely be there,” Garrett said.
