City police have obtained an arrest warrant charging MIT artificial-intelligence researcher Qinxuan Pan with the murder of Yale grad student Kevin Jiang.
New Haven Police Department spokesperson Anthony Duff made that announcement in a brief email press release sent out Saturday morning. He said the department will provide more details on Monday about the new arrest warrant.
The announcement comes three weeks after Jiang, a 26-year-old student at the Yale School of the Environment, was shot and killed on Feb. 6 on Lawrence Street near his fiancee’s apartment in the Goatville section of East Rock.
City police initially announced that Pan was wanted for questioning regarding the shooting.
Prior to Saturday’s announcement, the only warrants police said they had for Pan’s arrest were on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and interstate theft of a vehicle.
The U.S. Marshals have posted a $10,000 reward for information leading to Pan’s arrest. He was last seen in Georgia earlier this month.
