Pardee House Takes Shape

Barbara Carroll sent these photos and this write-up about an event this weekend in Morris Cove.

On Saturday, the New Haven Museum held a fundraiser on the grounds of the Pardee Morris House on Lighthouse Road. The goal was to raise money for restoration of the gardens on the property which had long been neglected.

After persistent efforts from the neighborhood, the Pardee Morris House is now starting to take shape and hopefully will someday be used for educational purposes as well as, in the future, host small events.

The rain held off and it was a wonderful and successful afternoon. Barbara Carroll coordinated the event with donations from everyone and for
everything. The tents and services were donated by aldermanic candidate Sal DeCola; the tables and chairs loaned for the event by Father Carter of Saint Bernadette’s Church/School on Townsend Avenue; outdoor flowers were donated by the Morris Cove Flower Club and planted by Marge Ottenbreit; Vittles and Libations” and table flowers were donated by Chestnut Fine Foods, and Leslie Martino donated and submitted the 8‑year design plan for the restoration of the gardens.

Bill MacMullen with the Militia Men were in attendance and were complimented by Deb Townshend and Priscilla Searls in period attire.

Mayor John DeStefano spoke about growing up in Morris Cove, the importance of the area’s history; ge started the ceremonial dig for restoration of the gardens.
