A citywide parking ban started at 6 p.m. Saturday — as New Haven braces for up to nine inches of snowfall.
Mayor Justin Elicker announced the parking ban in a Saturday afternoon email and text message alert.
The ban means that, in residential areas, no parking is allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street.
On all posted snow emergency routes and in the downtown area, there is no parking allowed on both sides of the street.
There’s also no parking allowed within 25 feet of a fire hydrant, intersection, or bus stop.
A list of city warming centers and shelters can be found here or by calling 211.
Below is a list of alternative places to park.
“Finally, please stay off the roads if you can, please shovel your sidewalks so there is a path at least 3 feet wide to ensure wheelchair and stroller access, and please check on your family, friends and neighborhoods who might need a helping hand,” Elicker wrote.
And call 911 in the event of any life-threatening emergencies.
