223 Ticketed, 194 Towed During Snowstorm

(Updated) A total of 223 cars were ticketed and 194 were towed for violating the citywide parking ban that was in effect from Saturday night through Sunday midday.

City spokesperson Lenny Speiller provided that update Monday afternoon, after the city received around four inches of snow over the weekend.

The Elicker administration put into effect a citywide parking ban that started at 6 p.m. Saturday and ended at noon on Sunday.

The ban meant that, in residential areas, no parking was allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street.

On all posted snow emergency routes and in the downtown area, there was no parking allowed on both sides of the street.

There was also no parking allowed within 25 feet of a fire hydrant, intersection, or bus stop.

On Monday, Speiller said that a total of 223 cars were ticketed and 194 towed for violating the parking ban. The snow emergency citation amount is $100 and the tow fee is $125.

Mayor Justin Elicker announced the parking ban in a Saturday afternoon email and text message alert, as the city braced for up to nine inches of snow. He announced the noon end to the ban in a followup message on Sunday.

While it was quite the storm, we were able to get through it together without any major incidents, which is a tribute to everyone working together,” he wrote on Sunday.

Below is a list of alternative places to park. Elicker’s message on Sunday stated that cars parked at public school lots have to leave by 2 p.m. Sunday.

Finally, please stay off the roads if you can, please shovel your sidewalks so there is a path at least 3 feet wide to ensure wheelchair and stroller access, and please check on your family, friends and neighborhoods who might need a helping hand,” Elicker wrote on Saturday. And call 911 in the event of any life-threatening emergencies.
