A 41-year-old New Havener named Luis Timbila died after being struck by a car in Cedar Hill during an early Sunday morning hit and run.
That’s according to a press release posted to the New Haven Police Department’s X account on Sunday at 11:11 a.m.
That press release states that, at around 2:18 a.m. Sunday, city police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the area of 1455 State St. on the report of a pedestrian struck.
Upon arriving, they found the victim, Timbila, “in the roadway on State Street.” The provided medical aid to Timbila on scene, but he died from his injuries.
“The involved vehicle did not remain on scene,” the press release states. “Witnesses described a black Honda Civic with front end damage traveling north on State Street toward Hamden and a red Honda Civic following it.”
The police department’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene, and is actively investigating.
Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).
According to city police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart, Timbila’s death marked the ninth fatality of a pedestrian or bicyclist in New Haven so far this year.
