Pitbulls Kill 6 Chickens, 1 Rooster

Two pit bulls — one white, the other white and brown — ran into a man’s Pond Lily Avenue backyard.

The white and brown pit bull did the killing. The same dog killed the man’s rabbit last year. But this year the dog got caught, by New Haven Animal Control.

Meanwhile, the police department’s bomb squad also got to detonate a Japanese World War II grenade found in a resident’s garage.

Top Westville /West Hills/ Amity/West Rock/ Beverly Hills cop Lt. Rose Dell details this incident and other crimes in her latest weekly summary of notable police calls.

Her summary follows:

FROM 4/13/19 to 4/21/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 203 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

On 4/14, Officer James Murcko was dispatched to a residence on Pond Lily Avenue for a dog complaint. The resident reported that two Pitbulls, one white and the other white/brown, ran into his backyard. The white and brown dog entered his chicken coop through an open window and killed seven chickens and a rooster. Animal Control caught the killer dog. This dog has a history of this type of violent behavior and ate this same resident’s rabbit last October. Animal Control will cite the dog’s owner and issue restraint orders for the vicious dog.

A resident of Fountain Street reported that around ten days ago his shotgun, two full boxes of ammunition, a 6’ sword, and a Scottish knife were stolen from the third-row seat of his minivan. He said his vehicle was locked at the time yet there were no signs of forced entry. He didn’t report it sooner, because he didn’t believe the police would do anything.

On 4/16, a resident of Valley Place North reported that he was helping his daughter move from her residence on Valley Street. He placed a Maxwell House coffee can with three grams of prescription medical marijuana into the rear of the vehicle and returned to the residence to unload more items. Later on in the day, he discovered that the coffee can was missing.

On 4/17, police responded to Wilmot Road for a call of an unknown nature. The resident reported that she is the sole occupant of her apartment but believes that the property managers allow sex workers to use her place when she is not home. She showed the Officer her bed sheets which she stated were new and clean when she left the apartment in the morning but were now soiled with bodily fluids and gum. The resident said she wanted her allegations documented in a police report, but she would handle the matter in court.

On Thursday morning at 11 am, police responded to the report of shots fired in the Brookside Estates housing complex. A red Toyota Camry was seen fleeing the area after the gunshots. Detectives spotted the vehicle, which was stolen out of Hamden, in the area of Blake Street and Whalley Avenue. The vehicle fled from police, crashed into a parked car and then two occupants bailed from the vehicle. Terrence Mundy was arrested in a rear yard on Batter Terrace. A firearm (Ruger Security Six .357) was located in the vehicle. Mundy was arrested for illegal firearm charges and for the stolen vehicle. He also had six active arrest warrants.

A resident of Barnett Street was awakened at 4:30 in the morning on 4/20 to the sounds of someone trying to enter the back door of the house. As she approached the rear of the house, she heard a person knocking loudly and then heard someone ask why the door wouldn’t open. When police arrived, they found the rear door forced open, the lock dismantled, and the hinges detached from the frame. The Officers searched the area but could not find any persons of interest.

On Saturday evening, a resident of Curtis Drive was cleaning out her garage when she found what appeared to be a grenade with Japanese writing. She explained that it probably belonged to her late husband who was a World War II veteran. The Bomb Squad was notified and took custody of the item. The grenade was detonated at a safe location.

A resident of the 1800 block of Chapel Street reported that her Subaru Forester had been broken into overnight on 4/20 and its driver-side front window had been shattered. A Honda Pilot was also broken into but had not been damaged. Both vehicles appeared to have been searched through, but no items were missing. Security cameras caught a male of unknown race/age walking down their private driveway towards the garage. The quality of the footage is not clear enough to identify the male.
