This coming New Year’s Day, shivering swimmers are getting a break — or losing a chance to have fun, depending on your view.
The swimmers usually pile into the water at Lighthouse Point Park for the Polar Plunge parks fundraiser.
The event’s called off this year, Morris Cove Alderman Sal DeCola announced Wednesday.
He explained why in the following “Dear Friends” email message:
“The Elm City Park Conservancy’s New Year’s Day Polar Plunge at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven has been canceled due to damage sustained by the carousel building as a result of Superstorm Sandy. It would not be possible to run its usual high quality event, so ECPC has elected to skip this year.”
