2010’s 3rd Murder Probed

A man found lying in a driveway on Lloyd Street has become the city’s third homicide victim of the year.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

At 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, police were called to a home on Lloyd Street in Fair Haven on a report of an unresponsive man lying in a driveway. The major crime unit responded and secured a crime scene.

At 11:30 a.m., Avery announced police are treating the investigation as a homicide. He had no further details.

Police responded on Sunday to shots fired on Lloyd Street.

2 More Shootings

There was a shooting on Pierpont Street in Fair Haven at 10 p.m. on Monday. Police reporting to the scene found a 23-year-old man with three gunshot wounds to the hand and thigh. He told police he was walking with a friend when someone started shooting at them. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police requested that people with information contact the department at 203 – 946-6316.

On Jan. 16, the victim’s younger brother was shot in a triple shooting on Grand Avenue.

On Tuesday at 11 a.m. officers responded to numerous reports of shots fired near Shelton Avenue and Division Street. They found a 2005 Kia Sedona van riddled with bullet holes. Police also found five spent shell casings. Witnesses told police that the shots were fired by people in a small red vehicle, possibly a Toyota Celica. There were no injuries.

Robber Turned Back By Candy Onslaught

A convenience store clerk rebuffed an attempted robbery by tossing a candy display at the bandit. The incident happened at Sam’s Mart on Forbes Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on Monday. The clerk told police that a man came in the store, pointed a handgun at him, and demanded money. When the clerk refused, the man reached over the counter and tried to open the register. He couldn’t get it open and the clerk threw a candy display at him. The robber fled on foot.

Beers And Edgewood Busy

At 3:30 p.m. on Monday, a man was robbed while trying to break up a fight at the corner of Beers Street and Edgewood Avenue. He told police he was trying to intervene when he was grabbed by two men who assaulted him and took $5 from him. The men fled in a four-door gray Toyota.

On Tuesday, in an apparently unrelated incident, near Beers and Edgewood, two car windows were smashed outside the Troup School. Robbers got away with at least one GPS unit. The smashings happened at around 10 a.m.

At 10:45 a.m., Jackie Klein was inspecting the damage on her car. Klein, who works for the school department, said she was in a meeting in the school and came out to find her window smashed. She noticed immediately that her GPS was missing.

Down the street, a minivan also had its window smashed out.
