If you were waiting for the Pond Lilly Dam to be removed from the West River, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
The removal of the dam has been pushed all the way to July 2015 — a year later than anticipated — because of insufficient money for the cost of construction.
Located in West Hills, the Pond Lily Dam has been identified by the state as a Class B hazard because of its poor condition. Replacing the dam would end the threat of dam failure. The replacement of the Pond Lily Dam, owned by the New Haven Land Trust, is expected to provide an additional 2.6 river miles and 76.2 lake acres for migratory fish habitat. Save the Sound, which is the project administrator for the replacement, has retained a consultant to do a peer review of the project.
