Connecticut-born-and-raised singer-songwriter Rachael Sage warmed up an intimated crowd at Cafe Nine with the help of feather boas draped onstage, sequins splattered across self, and chocolate coins scattered across the tables.
Sage—who’s now based in New York and traveling far and wide with her original songs— was one of two folkies performing this past Thursday night. Sage has released 11 albums of music described as “one part Elton John, one art Kate Bush.”
For most of her Cafe Nine set, she sang from behind the keyboards. She switched to guitar, and a standing position, for a few numbers, one of which you can sample in this video.
