Ragin’, Ritin’ & A Reportin’ Revolution

Two statewide circles converged Wednesday night: passionate politicos and practitioners of the emerging new grassroots online journalism. They gathered in the spicy environs of the Rajun Cajun in Hartford’s North End for a celebration of CT News Junkie, the Independent’s sister news web site to the north. In less than a year of operation founder Dan Levine (pictured) has made the site the state’s go-to location for the skinny on state politics and government.

DeStefano for Governor campaign chief Shonu Gandhi drove up from New Haven first for Jodi Rell's State of the State address, then for livelier doings at the Rajun Cajun.

Veteran organizer Tom Swan swung by in a momentary break from his new gig. Swan has taken a leave from running the Connecticut Citizen Action Group to direct Ned Lamont's uphill battle to dethrone U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman in a Democratic primary.

Lt. Guv Kevin Sullivan held court, pronouncing Rell's speech earlier that day short on substance and long on pandering.

Independent webmaster Kyle Summer of Smart Pill Design was spotted on the scene along with Advocate photographer Kathleen Cei, who had timely advice for less experienced shutterbugs on the premises.

New Haven Democratic Town Committee Chairwoman Susie Voigt made an early appearance, and found reason to stick around.

(Mom) Linda Levine (at left) and (Uncle) Michael Solomon flew all the way from the Windy City to celebrate with Dan.
