U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro’s Republican opponent is raising money, and campaigning, this time.

The campaign of Republican Margaret Streicker, who’s challenging 15-term Democrat DeLauro this year in New Haven’s Third U.S. Congressional District seat, reported taking in $336,909.60 in the quarter that ended June 30. DeLauro raised $188,108.94. Streicker outraised DeLauro in the first quarter as well.

As a first-time candidate, I am blown away by the level of support we have received,” Streicker, a real-estate executive, stated in a release. Despite the fact that special interest PAC money has already begun to flow into my opponent’s campaign, we continue to outpace her when it comes to fundraising.”

DeLauro Campaign Manager Sarah Locked sounded an unflustered note in a comment responding to the latest hauls: Rosa is grateful for the support, the majority of which comes from her constituents in her district. She is devoted to using these funds to elect and re-elect Members of the House to maintain a Democratic majority. This is vital to achieve the critical changes this country needs.”

Much of Streicker’s money came from her own funds, with former GOP statewide candidates Linda McMahon and Bob Stefanowski among the other donors, reported CT MIrror’s Ana Radelat.

Streicker has been showing up more in public and raising more money than many of DeLauro’s previous opponents. For instance, Angel Cadena, the Republican opponent in 2016 and 2018, said his day job driving a truck left him almost no time to raise money or campaign.

A Green Party candidate, Justin Paglino, is also seeking to challenge DeLauro. He is collecting signatures on petitions for a ballot slot on Nov. 3.
