Scott Jackson, until this month a top New Haven government official, is crossing the border back to Hamden.

Hamden Mayor Curt Leng announced Thursday that he has named Jackson the town’s new finance director.

It’s a homecoming to the town where Jackson got his start in municipal government and rose to the top.

Jackson left his post earlier this month as New Haven’s chief administrative officer, which he held for a year.

Before that he served two years as state revenue services commissioner. Before that he served a couple of years as state labor commissioner. For a year before that he served as undersecretary of intergovernmental policy in the State Office of Policy and Management.

Before that, he served as Hamden’s mayor for six years. He held other positions in Hamden government before that, as well as in the office of then‑U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman.

Leng stated in a release that Jackson will the help strengthen our town government and finances.” Hamden has been in dire fiscal straits.

The town’s current finance chief, Curtis Eatman, will move over to the role of acting economic development director.
