Sex Offender Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault Of Young Child

A 37-year-old New Haven man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a young child.

The home invasion and sexual assault took place at a home in southern Hamden in the early-morning hours of Feb. 6.

Hamden police have arrested the 37-year-old man — who is a registered sex offender — and charged him with first-degree sexual assault, home invasion, and risk of injury to a minor, according to department spokesperson Capt. Ronald Smith.

The arrestee illegally entered the residence and sexually assaulted a young child, while he/she slept. The child was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” Smith wrote in a release issued Thursday afternoon. The man is being held on a $500,000 bond; he has a Feb. 22 scheduled court date.

Smith credited Det. Angelo DeLieto of the department’s Special Victims Unit for his work on the investigation.
