(Updated Friday 10:10 a.m.) Police were investigating a Thursday night shooting on Sherman Avenue that sent one young man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Just before 11 p.m. police were putting up crime scene tape around a house near the corner of Sherman and Whalley Avenues. Neighbors said they heard four or five gunshots at around 10:30 p.m. An ambulance arrived and took a young man away, they said. One neighbor said she thought she heard two different guns being fired. The shooting happened in the back of the house, neighbors said.

Sergeant Jason Minardi said a young man was shot several times in the body. He said he didn’t know if the man survived.

He left here alive,” he said.

According to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery, the victim, a 19=year-old man named Ernest Harold, was shot in the abdomen and the buttocks. A bullet also grazed his head. He was taken to the Hospital of St. Raphael. The shooter was described as wearing a black hoodie. Detectives are investigating. Avery said Friday morning that the injuries were non-life-threatening.
