Two men were injured Monday afternoon during a drive-by shooting in Cedar Hill.
According to a New Haven Police Department (NHPD) press release posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday evening, city police officers responded at 1:04 p.m. to the area of State Street and Ferry Street for the report of two gunshot victims.
“When officers arrived, one victim was lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.” That man was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital’s York Street campus for treatment. As of Monday evening’s social media post, he had not yet been identified by police.
The second victim, a 21-year-old New Havener, was transported by private vehicle to YNHH.
Both men’s conditions were listed as “stable” as detectives worked to identify the first man. “An unoccupied vehicle was struck with several rounds of gunfire.”
An initial investigation into the shooting found that “the gunfire came from a vehicle which was driving south on State Street (toward downtown) while both victims were standing in the area of 1330 State Street,” the press release continues. “An occupant of the vehicle appeared to fire multiple rounds of gunfire, striking both subjects. The vehicle then continued south on State Street. That vehicle was later located; it was unoccupied and towed for processing.”
Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).
Monday’s shooting comes roughly a week after the city saw four people shot in three different gunfire incidents in two days.

The number of confirmed shots fired, meanwhile, is significantly down, from 195 at this time last year to 116 so far this year. And the number of homicides is also down, from 16 at this time last year to eight so far this year.
