A 35-year-old Hamden man died Tuesday morning after driving his Tesla into nine other vehicles on New Haven’s Nicoll Street, police said.
The crash took place near Eagle street at 7:50 a.m., according to a release from New Haven Police Capt. Rose Dell.
The driver, identified as Christopher Andreozzi, was “traveling at a high rate of speed” when he crashed into seven parked cars and two others that were in motion, Dell reported.
He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he died soon after. Two other drivers were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
The police department’s Crash Reconstruction Team has interviewed witnesses and obtained surveillance video.
“The investigation will take some time and will include a mechanical inspection of the Tesla,” Dell reported in the release. “Anyone who witnessed this crash or who may have information valuable to the investigators is urged to contact police via phone at 203 – 946-6304 or through the Department’s anonymous tip-line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).”
