Flames leapt to the sky in Edgewood Saturday night — and there was no need to call the fire department.
The fire was planned. It was a bonfire in the courtyard of the Yeshiva of New Haven, the centerpiece of the Jewish celebration of Lag B’Omer. The celebration marks the 33rd day of counting the omer, a practice connecting the holidays of Passover and Shavuot; and commemorates a series of milestones in Jewish history.
It is marked by bonfires, singing, dancing, and general merriment, as enjoyed by dozens after sundown Saturday at the yeshiva at Norton and Elm.
