Traffic Stop Leads To Crack, Smack Bust

The car was unregistered. It had the wrong license plate on it.

That turned out to be only the beginning of the problem.

The traffic stop took place on Beacon Street near Dixwell Avenue in Hamden Tuesday around 9:30 p.m.

Here’s what happened, according to a release from Hamden police spokesperson Sean J. Dolan:

While on a high-visibility patrol assignment,” Officers Keron Bryce (a three-time cop of the week” when he previously served on New Haven’s force) and Michael Vivenzio stopped a car for misuse of a license plate on an unregistered vehicle.”

The 39-year-old man behind the wheel did not at first pull over when the officers activated emergency lights. Then he resisted” and attempted to flee.” The officers caught and arrested him — and came upon 100 wax folds of suspected heroin, 55 bags of crack cocaine and 11 bags of powder cocaine,” in addition to $2,650 in cash.

The arrestee has an April 5 court hearing scheduled to answer to four narcotics-related charges, two motor vehicle-related charge, and disobeying the signal of an officer.
