Truman Teacher Arrested For Alleged Assault

Police Thursday arrested a 46-year-old Truman School teacher who allegedly assaulted a student.

Police went to the school after receiving a call about the assault at about 12:20 p.m., according to department spokesperson Scott Shumway.

The student sustained minor injuries and was released to his parents,” Shumway wrote in a release. The teacher was arrested and taken to the New Haven Police Department.” The charges include third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, and disorderly conduct.

The district takes very seriously any incident that poses physical risk to a student,” public schools spokesperson Justin Harmon wrote in a separate release. The school and the district are cooperating fully with the investigation by the New Haven Police Department. The staff member is being put on leave while the incident is investigated.”
