Tubis Strikes Again

Anne Tubis, typo-catcher extraordinaire.

Anne Tubis is the winningest typo catcher in New Haven Independent history — all 19 years of it. Now, she’s done it again.

Tubis, who won the typo-catching competition every year between 2015 and 2020, won her seventh title in 2024. While the eagle-eyed reader has previously caught hundreds of — and even once more than a thousand — typos, she came out on top last year with 78.

My reading time was considerably less than usual this year,” said the Neighborhood Music School development manager, who is celebrating 20 years at the school. She’s also the director of Audubon Arts, the school’s summer musical theatre program.

Tubis doesn’t have a specific process for catching typos, and I’m not always great about keeping up with all the news — 2024 is a good example of that.

When I have the time and inclination to sit down and read, I open all the articles on the home page that I haven’t read yet, and dive in,” she said. I read the articles all the way through and submit typos as I come across them.”

As for what the title means to her? It’s always a fun honor to be the top typo catcher — thank you! It means a lot to me to help out a nonprofit organization, and I enjoy getting to learn more about New Haven happenings.”

Barb Levine-Ritterman and Miriam Grossman came in second and third place, respectively, with 51 and 24 typos.

This year’s typo-catching competition has already begun — if you think you have what it takes (or just want to try your hand at catching a couple of typos), we always appreciate the help. Follow the competition and submit your own caught typos here.
