Employees from Avangrid and its subsidiary United Illuminating, recently spent a day on Goodwin Street in New Haven volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven.

The Avangrid team installed sheetrock for a new home. This included measuring and cutting the drywall, screwing it into studs and using a drywall router to cut out sections of the drywall after it was installed for sections where the window, closets or doorways were covered.

This volunteer effort is part of a company-wide partnership among Avangrid, the Avangrid Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.

The New Haven build is one of the approximately 20 volunteer days scheduled in July with local Habitat for Humanities across Avangrid’s service area. It is all part of the Avangrid Foundation’s Energized for Good program, an initiative that expands opportunities for employees to engage more deeply in social impact work through volunteerism and giving. Avangrid’s goal is to reach 7,000 employee volunteer hours in 2022.

We are very proud to be longtime partners with Habitat for Humanity,” said Pablo Colón, director of corporate citizenship and executive director of the Avangrid Foundation. At Avangrid, we’re committed to creating a positive, lasting social impact by supporting and caring for the communities we serve. Habitat for Humanity is a great partner not only because they do impactful work, but also because they touch so many of the communities where our teams live and work. While volunteering with Greater New Haven chapter was a hard day’s work, we had a great time giving back to our community.”

The Avangrid Foundation is the utility’s primary philanthropic arm.
