On Thursday night at Metropolitian Business Academy, mayoral candidates Anthony Dawson, Clifton Graves, Jeffrey Kerekes, Robert Lee, and incumbent John DeStefano took part in an at-times fiery exchange of ideas at their first formal mayoral debate.
The five Democrats are running to become the next mayor of New Haven. The debate came just over a month before Democrats head to the polls for the Sept. 13 primary, in what is becoming one of the most hotly contested mayoral elections in years.
The event was sponsored by the Independent and La Voz Hispana, featured questions from those two organizations along with the Register and WNPR, and was live-blogged by another panel of reporters. The Register and NBC30 provided live video.
