“Jenna” said she wanted to “have some fun” — so they did, until the fun ran out for her new friend.
The subsequent theft is among the incidents contained in the latest weekly crime blotter written by top West HIlls/ Westville/ Amity/ Beverly Hills/ West Rock cop Lt. Rose Dell. The summary follows:
FROM 8/18/19 to 8/24/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 174 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVEN. THE FOLLOWING IS A BRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:
On 8/18, police responded to the Best Way Inn on the report of a stolen auto. A resident told the Officer that he went to Popeye’s on Whalley Avenue at 1:40 am and met a female named Jenna who wanted “to have some fun.” They drove to the New Haven Inn where Jenna purchased some marijuana and other items. They then went to a residence on the Boulevard and purchased a bottle of Hennessey. A short time later, they returned to the Best Way Inn and drank the bottle of Hennessey. Jenna then took his car keys and said she needed some items from her room at the New Haven Inn. The resident fell asleep and woke up in the morning. He could not locate Jenna, his car or his wallet.
Sunday morning a resident was walking with her 2‑year-old daughter on Willard Street near McKinley Avenue. She was approached by two unknown males. One of the males grabbed her purse with such force that he broke the handle. Both males ran westbound on Willard Street toward Barnett Street and got into an older model minivan. A number of similar incidents occurred throughout the City on this same day. Both subjects were described as black males in their late teens. One wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants with white stripes on the side and soccer shoes. The other wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
On 8/19, a resident parked his vehicle in a parking lot on the 200 block of Fountain Street. When he returned the next day, all four tires including the rims were stolen.
A resident of Fountain Street lost his wallet downtown on 8/19. He was notified by his bank of three suspicious purchases that totaled over $64,000. Two of the purchases were declined, but one was approved.
On Tuesday evening, around 5 pm, police responded to the roadway in front of 100 Fowler Street to investigate a motor vehicle accident. A 10-year-old male was riding his bicycle when he collided with a vehicle in the roadway. The child suffered serious and life-threatening injuries. The Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to collect evidence to determine how the collision occurred.
This week in Westville there was only one reported theft from a vehicle. Sometime overnight on Barnett Street a pair of sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle.
On 8/21, police responded to the 200 block of Fountain Street on a package theft. A set of packages were dropped off by the mailman at around 2:30 pm and another package was dropped off by UPS around 15 minutes later. The packages contained over $200 worth of vitamins, and various bath and body products. The resident reviewed their surveillance cameras and saw an older, tall, thin, black male, wearing blue jeans, a black short sleeve shirt, a black do-rag and tan boots enter the backyard carrying a blue recycling bin. The male stole all of the packages and then left in an SUV.
Police responded to the Worldwide Pet and Fish Store on Amity Road for the report of a burglary. Sometime overnight between 8/23 – 8/24, a break-in occurred through the garage bay door. Three aquatic lamps and a laptop were stolen from the counter area. Officers will review video surveillance from the store.
