A 41-year-old West Haven man named Charles Miller was shot and killed on Pond Lily Avenue on the far west side of town Friday night, becoming the city’s second homicide victim of the year — and the third in the past week.
New Haven Police Department spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway sent out an email press release on Saturday afternoon about Miller’s death.
“On January 6, 2023, at about 7:58 PM, New Haven Police received a Shotspotter alert to gunfire and a call regarding a person shot on Pond Lily Avenue, between Valley Street and the dead-end of Pond Lily Avenue,” Shumway wrote. “Responding officers located Charles Miller, a 41-year-old West Haven man, who had been shot. American Medical Response transported the victim to Yale New Haven Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”
Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the Police contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203 – 946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1 – 866-888-TIPS(8477), or email to ECIC@newhavenct.gov.
Miller’s shooting death comes five days after a 23-year-old New Haven man named Dontae Myers was shot and killed near Poplar Street and Grand Avenue in Fair Haven on the first day of 2023. His homicide also comes a week to the day after a 27-year-old Hartford man named Ernie Negroni-Feliciano was fatally shot on Saltonstall Avenue in Fair Haven.
