Heist From Harley Heats Up

An Augustine Street man was accessorized to ride his Harley Davidson with heated pants and jacket and gloves — until someone made off with the hot items.

That reported theft was among the crimes reported in top West Hills/ Westville/ West Rock/ Amity/ Beverly Hills cop Lt. Rose Dell’s latest weekly written highlights reel.

Her summary follows:

FROM 4/27/19 to 5/04/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 173 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

A resident of Augustine Street reported that his bag was stolen off of his Harley Davidson motorcycle sometime between 4/26 – 4/27. The bag contained a pair of heated pants, a heated jacket, heated gloves, a hat and a rain suit.

Officer Matthew Vernik was on patrol in the 200 block of Fountain Street when he was approached by a resident who had items stolen from her vehicle. The theft occurred sometime between 4/25 and 4/29. An Ipod Nano, an air pressure gauge, a handicap placard and a $20 bill were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 4/30, at around 11 am, police responded to Edgewood Park on the report of a robbery. A groundskeeper who was clearing the trails for safe passage was approached by two unknown males. He greeted the males and then continued to tend to an overgrown bush. One of the males then demanded the groundskeeper’s money and ordered him to put down his trimming tool. He started to dial 911 when the males rushed towards him and grabbed him. He was then struck in the back of the head and hit in the face with a log. The males then fled on the trails towards West Park Avenue. The groundskeeper was not seriously injured. One subject was described as a black male, approximately 5’10”-5’11”, around 200 pounds, in his early 30s, wearing all dark clothing. The other subject was described as a black male, approximately 5’11”-6’, with a thin build, wearing a red baseball cap.

On 4/30, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the New Haven Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) executed a federal arrest warrant on Augustine Street. Agents and Officers located approximately 740 grams of Fentanyl and Cocaine in a bedroom. Three individuals were arrested for the illegal drug activity.

A resident of Cleveland Road reported that someone stole her bicycle from her garage. On 5/3, she noticed that the side door to the garage was open and a Schwinn beach cruiser bike was missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 5/5, shortly after midnight, police responded to Alden Avenue on the report of a robbery. Three individuals were standing outside a residence when they saw a black Honda pull into the driveway. Two males exited the vehicle, pointed handguns at the group and demanded their wallets. No one had wallets, but the robbers took a cell phone, cigarettes and a set of keys. They fled in the vehicle towards Fountain Street. One of the males was described as a light skinned black male, wearing a red face covering, red shirt and was in his 20s. The second subject was described as a black male, in his 20s, tall with a thin build, with large eyes and wearing a light blue face covering and blue shirt.
