Porch Pirate Descends

The Louis Vuitton Apple watchband and shoes appeared on the porch of a South Genessee Street e‑shopper —then disappeared.

A porch pirate” had struck again.

Meanwhile, a tussle over bottles of tequila and cognac ended with an arrest at Amity Wine and Liquor.

Those are among the incidents reported in top west wide cop Lt. Rose Dell’s weekly summary.

Her summary follows:

FROM 6/16/19 to 6/22/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 169 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

On 6/17, a resident of Alston Avenue reported a theft from her garage. The thief entered her unlocked Ford Escape which was parked in front of her home and used the garage door opener to enter the garage. An electric hedge cutter and three lithium ion batteries were stolen.

A resident of South Genesee Street reported that a porch pirate visited her home. On 6/17, the Post Office delivered a package sometime between 2 and 4 pm. When the resident returned home after 4 pm, she noticed the package was missing. The package contained a Louis Vuitton Apple watchband and two pairs of shoes.

Around seven dollars in cash was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on the 600 block of Fountain Street sometime overnight on 6/19. 

On 6/20, police responded to Amity Wine and Liquor on a shoplifting. The manager reported that two females and a male put three bottles of tequila and a bottle of cognac into a bag and attempted to leave the store without paying. The manager confronted them and tried to grab the bag of booze. The manger didn’t get the bag but snagged a cell phone dropped by one of the subjects during the tussle. The subjects stayed in the store to get the phone back from the manager. When they saw the police, they tried to walk out but were detained by the Officers. One of the subjects was arrested for the stolen liquor. Another was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

On 6/21, police spotted a vehicle stolen out of Putnam County, New York in a parking lot on Wayfarer Street. The vehicle was unoccupied. Police databases identified a subject that was suspected of stealing the vehicle. While the police waited for the tow truck, the subject began to walk towards the stolen car. When he saw the Officer sitting in his cruiser next to the stolen vehicle, the subject quickly began to walk in the opposite direction. Officers stopped him and found the stolen car key in his pants pocket. The subject was arrested and charged with Larceny.
