Guns Found In Blanket; Market Hit Again; Crash At The Car Wash

Robbers hit Westville Quality Market again, and officers responded to found object” calls recovered six marijuana plants in Amity and a 12-gauge shot gun and a rifle wrapped in a rifle in a blanket on Fitch Street.

Meanwhile, a conveyer belt malfunction led to a bumper-bender at the car wash.

FROM 3/9/19 to 3/16/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 155 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

On 3/11, police responded to Westville Quality Market on the report of a commercial robbery. An unknown male walked into the store, pulled a gun on the employees and demanded all the cash from the register. He ordered the employees onto the floor and then ran from the store east on West Elm Street towards Marvel Road. He was described as a middle-aged black male, around 6’0” and 250 pounds. He wore a black winter hat, black hoodie, blue jeans, red/orange sneakers and glasses. He was in possession of a small black handgun with royal blue grips. Detectives arrived on scene to obtain statements and view video surveillance footage.

On Thursday evening, police responded to 50 Fitch Street on the report of found property. An employee was clearing some snow in the parking lot when he located a burgundy blanket in the southeast corner of the lot wrapped around a 12-gauge shot gun and a rifle. The forensics bureau responded to collect the firearms and search for clues.

Police responded to a vandalism complaint at Burger King restaurant on Whalley Avenue Thursday evening. An employee reported that a group of young juveniles have repeatedly come to the restaurant and cause problems for the staff. Officer Stroscio viewed the footage from the surveillance cameras and saw the juveniles huddled in front of one of the windows. One of the juveniles broke the window with a donkey style kick. The juvenile who broke the window appeared to be a younger teenager, approximately 5’4”, around 130 pounds and wore a black short-sleeve shirt with gray sleeves.

On 3/15, police responded to a parking lot on Amity Road for the report of found property. An employee from a business in the area was in the lot taking a cigarette break when he saw six potted marijuana plants behind a chain link fence. Responding officers pulled the plants from the containers and placed them into evidence. 

On Saturday evening, police responded to a car wash on Amity Road for an accident. A customer reported that she was on the conveyor belt headed through the car wash when she felt her vehicle jolt forward when she was struck by the vehicle that was behind her. When she exited the wash, she saw scratches on her rear bumper. The manager of the car wash said that the conveyor belt malfunctioned, and the business would pay for all damages to her vehicle.

On 3/17, Officer Rubino and Officer Blaisdell went to Rockview Circle to serve an arrest warrant. They knocked on the door of the residence, and it was answered by the wanted subject. He was handcuffed without incident and was searched by Officer Blaisdell who found a Ziploc baggie which contained marijuana and thirty-four bags of crack cocaine. The subject was taken into custody for the warrant and charged with drug possession with intent to sell.
