A man was standing in his driveway at 2:23 a.m. when he saw a Buick Lacrosse speed by, cross lanes, then crash into a retaining wall and flip over.

Meanwhile, officers were called to get a Regal Inn guest moving when he overstayed his welcome.

Those were among the incidents reported by top Westville/West Hills/West Rock/Amity/Beverly Hills cop Lt. Rose Dell in her latest weekly summary of police calls.

Lt. Dell’s written summary follows:

FROM 3/2/19 to 3/9/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 196 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

This week in Westville police received reports from two residents that had their car windows smashed on 3/3. Three vehicles parked in the rear driveway of a Chapel Street residence were vandalized. All vehicles had a broken window and were rummaged through. Loose change was stolen. On this same day, a resident of McKinley Avenue reported his window was smashed but nothing was taken since he had left no items of value in his vehicle.

On Sunday, police responded to two incidents of gunfire on Jennings Way. Around 7:15 am, residents reported that they heard 4 shots and observed a red Honda with a black bumper drive quickly from Jennings Way towards Solomon Crossing. A vehicle and the exterior of a residence were struck by the gunshots. At around 9:15 pm, police responded to more gunshots on Jennings Way. A vehicle, a residence and a trash barrel were struck. Detectives arrived on scene to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

Sunday afternoon police responded to the Regal Inn for a hotel guest that overstayed his welcome. The guest in Room #144 was supposed to check-out at 11am but would not open the door for the hotel manager. Officers opened the room with a master key, arrested the trespasser and sent him to lock-up.

A green GMC Yukon was stolen from Blake Street on 3/3 between 5 pm and 5:25 pm. The owner had his work tools stored in the vehicle.

On Monday evening, police responded to a fire of a multi-family residence on Victory Drive. Flames were visible from a side window. All residents were safely evacuated. The fire inspector said the fire was not suspicious and may have been caused by faulty electrical wires. The Red Cross found housing for the displaced residents.

On Friday morning, Officer Michael Valente responded to a residence on Central Avenue for the late report of gunshots and a found projectile. A college student who lives in the residence told the Officer that around 4 – 5 nights ago he heard a loud bang” around midnight. None of his roommates heard the noise, and he thought that his cat might have knocked something over in the apartment. He didn’t give it much thought and went back to sleep. On 3/8, he noticed that there was a hole in his 3rd floor window about the size of a small bullet. He then found another small hole in a wall opposite the first hole, also the size of a small bullet. In a wall near the hallway, he found a larger hole. When he pushed on the hole, a projectile fell out. Officers spoke to residents in the area but none of them heard gunfire within the last week. The dispatcher also checked the call history and found no reports of gunfire in the area.

On 3/8, Officer Christopher Lawrence and Officer Newton Anderson were conducting crime suppression in the area of Brookside Townhouses due to the recent uptick in violence. They stopped a vehicle on Augustine Street that had an expired Texas One-Trip” temporary registration. The operator had no insurance for the vehicle, an expired adult learner’s permit and suspended driving privileges. He was issued a summons for numerous motor vehicle violations.

Police responded to Fountain Street on 3/9 at 2:23 am for a rollover motor vehicle crash. A witness, who was standing in his driveway, saw a Buick Lacrosse traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Fountain Street. The vehicle lost control, crossed into the eastbound travel lane, drove onto the sidewalk and then flipped over when it struck a retaining wall. The operator was transported to the hospital and treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
