Westville Firehouse Cleared For Lead Clean-Up

Firefighters and firetrucks have temporarily moved from Westville’s Fountain Street firehouse to the Ellsworth Avenue station pending completion of a clean-up.

The move took place Monday.

The firehouse had some lead paint identified in the apparatus bay,” reported Assistant Fire Chief Justin McCarthy.

The clean-up has begun. Meanwhile, the decision was made to relocate people and equipment temporarily due to some dust possibly unsettled,” McCarthy stated. This was done in conjunction with an approved contractor” using approved methods to remove and cover the paint.”

The firefighters are expected back within a day
