Walking a dog behind Career High School Friday, a Hill neighbor found a swastika and a racist message written on a white paper bag hanging from a tree.
The neighbor told police, who showed up shortly before 5 p.m. to check it out.
The bag (pictured) bore the messages “White Power,” “niggahboo” and “whites only” scrawled in black pen.
The bag was hanging from the lowest branch of a young oak tree in the tree belt on Ward Street, right near a rear parking lot of Hill Regional Career High School.
Police will be checking the security cameras behind the school to see if they can catch the culprit, according to Hill neighborhood top cop Lt. Holly Wasilewski. Hanging a bag with a racist message is considered a hate crime, she said. The penalty for the crime would depend on the circumstances in which the bag was hung, she said.
