Woman, 26, Shot To Death

Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly shooting a 26-year-old woman to death in Fair Haven early Sunday.

The shooting took place on Saltonstall Avenue. The man called 911 at 1:11 to report that he had just shot someone,” according to a release from police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell.

He had his hands raised when police arrived, and told officers he had placed his gun in the vehicle.”

The victim, Tayna Rodriguez, was lying in the road beside a Honda Civic. She was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she subsequently died.

Police said the alleged shooter had been involved in a fight with two other men when Rodriguez had gotten out of her car and approached them. The fight involved a current and former romantic partner of a friend of Rodriguez. The alleged shooter took out a gun during the fight, and may have accidentally fired it and struck Rodriguez, according to police.

The alleged shooter, charged with murder, is being held on $2 million bond.
