Pauline Burgo, 95, died Saturday from injuries sustained in a fire at her home.
The fire department responded to the fire at 58 Stevenson Rd. in Upper Westville at 5 a.m. The call came in as a medical alarm; firefighters on Engine 15 arrived to find an “active fire” at the single-family-home, reported Assistant Fire Chief Justin McCarthy.
“Additional resources were requested, and Engine 15 started to attack the fire and search for any victims,” he stated.
They found Pauline Burgo (who went by “Anna”) inside. She was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Firefighters had the fire extinguished and the scene under control at 5:49 a.m., according to McCarthy. No firefighters were injured. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
