Updated — One hundred New Haven cops — a quarter of the force — were still out looking Sunday for a man in connection with the shooting death of a 28-year-old woman in front of her 6 and 11-year-old children.
The 28 year-old woman’s murder occurred Thursday night, May 31. Police responded at 10:16 p.m. to Wilmot Road in West Rock and found the woman shot to death in the car where her children were present.
Police are looking for a suspect. They believe the shooting may be linked to a May 7 incident in which a different woman was shot and said her 41-year-old husband did it.
So police, joined by U.S. marshals, have been looking for the husband, Tramaine Marquese Poole. They have an active assault first warrant out for his arrest in connection with the May 7 shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203 – 946-6304.
On Sunday afternoon, Chief Anthony Campbell issued a plea for anyone who may have any information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the police.
“This individual has crossed every line,” he said, “even on the spectrum of criminal life. You do not kill people in front of children. You do not do that. It is in everybody’s best interest to get this person off the street.” He said anyone who is capable of executing a woman in front of her 11 and 6‑year-old children is liable to be a danger to anyone and everyone.
On Friday afternoon the U.S. Marshals Office of the U.S. Department of Justice announced that the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Taskforce is assisting the New Haven Police Department in tracking down Poole. The U.S. Marshals Office wrote that Poole is 5’11, 160 pounds, has short black hair, clean shaved but might be wearing a wig as a disguise. The fugitive taskforce is offering a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to Poole’s arrest. Any information will be considered confidential.
Persons having information should contact the U.S. Marshals at 1 – 877-Wanted‑2 (1 – 877-926‑8332), the New Haven Police Detective’s Bureau at #203 – 946-6304 or New Haven Police Tip Line #1 – 866-888-TIPS (8477).
The marshals office said that Poole should be considered armed and dangerous, and warned that individuals should not attempt to arrest Poole themselves.
Police for now are withholding the identity of the victim out of respect for her children and to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
