On the sixth night of Hanukkah, Rabbi Mendy Hecht lit the candles on a menorah to illuminate a small circle of Wooster Square neighbors.
As snowflakes whirled through the air Sunday night, the group gathered at one end of Wooster Square Park to watch the small flames start to glow, from left to right, and share in a blessing or two.
“It’s a pretty simple lesson that when the world seems dark and difficult, the opportunity to have light is one we have to take advantage of and always build on yesterday’s achievements,” said Hecht, who leads services at the historic Orchard Street Shul.
